Second Teaching (Third Period)

Describe
I was writing the agenda for starting the class, (Passive voice) and the Ss were talking about personal things. In that moment, I had just six boys. So, I had to start the class with those boys. The environment was really great in the class; the seating arrangement was in the traditional way; the Ss really cooperated in the class as always. I developed the broken telephone as the warm up, and after that, I did a brain-storming. Then,  I used worksheets and some pictures. I just had to do speaking activities. The hot potato for practicing the structure of passive voice, some pictures (they had to describe the pictures in the passive voice), and a photo gallery.

Passive voice is not an easy topic. You have to be really prepared, and if it’s necessary study the topic again for clarify Ss’ doubts.

I think that sometimes make the Ss practice the passive voice is difficult because they speak in the most easy way. However, I had to look for activities in which I had to be almost sure that they had to be able to practice it.

I think that looking for adequate speaking activities for passive voice is something indispensable since you have to be almost sure the Ss have to practice it: if not, they will speak in the way they want.

Practicing the passive voice is really great for those Ss because I could see that they really liked to practice it.

Based on what I already know about passive voice, I think that it is not something easy to explain. Also, this was a challenge for me.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice in the way that I expected.

I believe that passive voice can help student learning because they will be able to use it the times they want. I mean, they can see different ways to speak and write the foreign language.

So, in the future, I will memorize names. I didn’t know the Ss’ names.

In future lessons, I will teach with charts. They are really helpful.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will explain the grammar in an easier way. I think that we have to start explaining something with simple sentences.

In future experiences, I will also include more writing activities.

First teaching (Third period)

Describe
The students were writing a journal, and they were sharing some ideas of it with their classmates, and I was preparing some things for starting the class. The environment was really awesome! I loved the way the students worked because they really seemed to be interested in the class. The arrangement of the classroom was in the traditional way. I used the marker for the warm up activity that was about guessing some drawings. Then,  I used a chart to explain the new topic (passive voice with modals), worksheets for the controlled and free activity. Also, I used some pictures, and I used the book for the presentation of the topic.

I explain the grammar part that was passive voice with modals, and I was worried because it is hard topic to teach. I tried to explain as clear as I could. I think that they got what I explained, and besides that, they already knew a little bit about the topic.

Passive voice is a hard topic, and I think that it is because of the way that we have to use it. Also, the Ss have to have everything clear about that topic for using it in the right way.

The explanation of the grammar part is important because it is the moment in which the Ss clarify their doubts.

If the grammar part is well explained, the Ss will not feel the exercises very difficult.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I think that the English Advanced Ss really like to speak. I could notice that they really take advantage of speaking activities when they put into practice that skill.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice with modals in the exercises.

I believe that speaking activities can help students learning because they not only practice the structure in the written form but also they practice the new vocabulary that is given.

So, in the future, I will assign some exercises in groups since they really like to work with their classmates.

In future lessons, I will be careful with the presentation because I was nervous, and I forgot to do it after the warm up.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will do activities in which they have to be more active.

In future experiences I will also include listening activities.

Third Class (Second Period)

Describe
I was writing the date and the agenda on the board, and some Ss were talking about a homework assignment they had. The environment was great as the previous classes; the Ss were friendly as always. The seating arrangement was in the horse shoe style, and the materials that I used were worksheets for writing exercises, a chart for explaining the grammar part (some and any; affirmative, negative and question form) and some pictures for a story telling in the free activity.

At the beginning, I was under pressure since I had to do it better than the second class. However; little by little, I felt more comfortable. I saw that the Ss got what I explained.

I think that I explained as clear as possible the use of some and any with examples, and the activities that I did in the class.

Giving examples is something really important because if Ss do not get the topic with just the grammar explanation; they can get it through the examples.

When I asked the Ss, they answered in the way that I was expecting. I could see that they were able to go to the next practice.

Based on what I already know about variety of activities, I saw that the Ss were enjoying the activities.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got the explanation, and I could see it through the responses of the activities.

I believe that any and some is not something difficult for the Ss because they made an effort for using them in the best way.

So, in the future, I will be more relaxed. Sometimes, I worry too much about the class and I don’t enjoy it.

In future lessons, I will apply variety of activities since this really works for maintaining the Ss active all the time.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will ask the Ss to share the storytelling in pairs since I just asked some of them to pass to the front because of the time.

In future experiences I will also include speaking activities. I could see that the Ss always enjoy talking and sharing with others.

Second Teaching (Second preriod)

Describe
I could see that some Ss were eating in the classroom, and I was preparing the materials that I was going to use.  Some Ss were in the classroom on time and the others arrived 5 minutes late. The environment was really good as the first class. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the space.  I used a baby bottle for the warm up activity that is called spin the bottle for reviewing the phrasal verbs of the last class. Then, for the presentation, I gave a reading in which Ss had to underline the phrasal verbs they find. After that, I used some pictures and concepts for doing a matching activity, and I explained the meaning of each phrasal verb. And then, some worksheets for the other activities.

I used a reading activity, and it worked really great. I think that readings are important since they refresh Ss’ minds, and also, they worked well when we want to introduce a topic.

Also, I used a matching activity. I told the Ss to come to the front and match the pictures with the concepts. Ss’ responses were great since I had a lot of participations.

I think that encouraging the Ss is something that we have to keep in mind in every class since that catches Ss attention since the beginning.

Ss are active if we maintain them active since the beginning of the class.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I can say that they really work in the classroom, and Ss do not get bored.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got phrasal verbs I could see that they used them in the writing and speaking activities, and they did it really great.

I believe that speaking activities can help student learning because they put in practice the vocabulary that was given in the class, and in that way we can know if they are able to use it in the appropriate way when they speak.

So, in the future, I will give a variety of activities for make the Ss practice a lot in many different ways.

In future lessons, I will prepare the examples that I will give because in this class, I was hesitating a little bit.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will be careful with the time sometimes; I feel that I’m running with the last activity.

In future experiences I will also include readings. I could see that they are important for Ss to remember how to write some words.

First teaching (Second Period)

Describe
When I was in the classroom, I saw some Ss there. They were talking about a presentation they had in another class. I was writing on the board the agenda and the objective. The environment was great the Ss made me feel comfortable. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the space of the classroom that is small. I used a small teddy bear for playing the hot potato, a chart for explaining grammar (past continuous related with parts of a car) pieces of paper for unscramble sentences and markers for the free activity.

In the warm up, I developed the hot potato for reviewing the topic of the last class. I played music, and the Ss had fun with the activity.

Teaching the past continuous is not difficult. However, the vocabulary about cars was a challenge because it was new for me.

This may help Ss learning since it increases their vocabulary. Now, Ss not only know about what contains a house also they know about cars.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, they are important when you want your Ss to practice their speaking skills. However, written activities are important since they practice the grammar part.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got what I explained, and I felt happy for their reactions

I believe that I could do a better job since I got nervous. It was my first time with them, and I was thinking about their reactions. When I gave my explanation about vocabulary, I just did it once. I think That I could give them more examples about each word.

So, in the future, I will give more examples in the vocabulary for being sure if Ss got some words.

In future lessons, I will make some speaking activities in order to practice the vocabulary taught.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will use funny activities I could notice that they enjoy and at the same time, they put in practice what they saw in the class.

In future experiences I will use a variety of activities because of the time I just did three. Also, I will control the time.

third teaching (first period) English Access

Describe
When the Ss were in the classroom, they were talking with their friends and getting ready for starting the class. I was preparing some flashcards for doing the warm up and they said “Hello.” The environment was really amazing I notices since the beginning that the Ss were really friendly. The seating arrangement was in the horse shoe style. They were twenty one Ss but the seating arrangement was in order. I used flashcards in the Warm up, a chart for explaining past participle in negative form, worksheets for the third activity and music with a hat for developing the free activity.

The new Ss really like to speak in the class, but they didn’t interrupt the class in any moment. Something that I really loved.

I think they were quite since I was new for them, and they respected me. They were kind and always were listening what I said.

I thing that to pay attention in the class is really important in the class since they can learn something new very fast. They got what I explained really fast something that I was happy for.

This really helped me because I could develop other activities. They really liked to work.

Based on what I already know about motivating activities, I thing that those Ss enjoyed the class. All of them participated in the class. I was proud of them although it was my first time with them. However, they treat me like if they knew me since a long time ago.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally learn the past participle (negative form) for they paid  attention.

I believe that if Ss pay attention, they can learn faster. This can help in their learning because they are focus on what they are doing.

So, in the future, I will prepare speaking activities. They love to speak and practice the foreign language.

In future lessons I will teach with some games. It really works at the beginning and at the end since they always are active and speaking.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will prepare colored charts and flashcards. They are focus and paying attention with something that calls their attention.

In future experiences I will also include speaking activities between them.

Teaching Practicum II (First period)

Describe
At the beginning of the class, Ss were a little bit talkative. I asked them to stand up in order to do the warm up. They were happy because I told them to go out for develop it, and I could see that they really like to stay there. I had just had few Students because sometimes the others arrive late. Some of them were without energy, and I tried to cheer them up with the warm up. The environment always is great there. They are people who always participate and make us feel comfortable. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the number of students. I used worksheets in the activities since it was a review.

When I develop the warm up, they were doing well. However, When I ask them to tell me a sentence, they did not speak aloud, and the other students didn’t listen. It was my mistake since I had to tell them to speak aloud, and sometimes the other students get distracted easily.

I think that it is important to tell them to speak aloud because if they don’t do it the other students get distracted and start to speak of other things. Moreover, it’s not just for the teacher but for the students.

This might hinder the students because if I don’t tell them anything they are not going to pay attention, and that will be a problem in the class.

Based on what I already know about activities, I think that English Access students really like to talk, and if we have students like that, It’s good if we give them speaking activities, and we will have the chance to take advantage of that skill they have.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got everything that I explained, but I have to give them more examples the next class.

I believe that variety of activities can help student learning because if we just assign controlled activities, they will be bored and they will hate that kind of activities. Moreover, they will learn in different ways.

So, in the future, I will do variety of activities in order to make the students feel with energy and interested in the topic.

In future lessons, I will have something in my hand when they have to stop to speak since I had to scream a little bit the last class.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will give Ss more example. Even though it was just a review, We have to give enough examples.

In future experiences I will also include a song. I could notice students really like songs since I plaid one the last class and they were dancing, but I did not have the chance to finish that activity.

First teaching, first period

Describe
It was three o’ clock and just seven students were in the classroom. They said “hello” in a polite way, and I could see that they were going to be good students with me. They were talking about things of their school. I was waiting for some student for starting the class because some of them were arriving in that moment.  The environment was really good; I could feel the energy of those guys. The seating arrangement was in a normal way since there were a lot of desks, but I’m thinking about how to fix them in the next class. I used a chart for explaining the grammar part, worksheets for the first activity. Moreover, I used some pictures for the second activity in which they had to create some sentences, and I gave one picture per group for creating a description of the places that each group had. At the end, they had to present each picture with their characteristics.

Some students were very active; they were speaking a lot and kidding with their classmates. I took advantage of them because when I asked some things they were the first ones to answer, and I saw them like an example for the others to participate.
I think that they were with energy because of the topic that was too + adjective + infinitive. It was related with famous places around the world and it wasn’t difficult for them. I gave a picture to each group and at the end, they had to present it. I saw that they were not ashamed when they had to speak.

Presentations are really important because students can put into practice their vocabulary. It was evident that they liked to speak.

Presentations can help in student learning since they feel that they really can speak the foreign language. Moreover, they throw away their shyness.

Based on what I already know about presentations, I think that students can do it if they have the enough vocabulary for doing it. I mean according to the level. Those students really liked to speak, and it is good if we exploit that skill from them.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally could get the topic and present their landscapes. They didn’t look like if they were forced being there. They really enjoyed it.

I believe that speak in front of other people can help student learning because in the future they will feel without fear. If some day, they are in front of a foreign person, they will feel more confident when they speak. It feels really good when you feel secure of what you are saying.

So, in the future, I will do speaking activities. They enjoy more when they are busy preparing what they are going to say.

In future lessons, I will look for more activities. Some of the students finish them earlier than others, and they distract the ones that are busy.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will add reading activities.

In future experiences, I will also include a warm up I could not do it in the first class because of the activities that the teacher told me to do, and I had not enough time. However, I think that I could handle the time in a better way.

Third Teaching ( Third period)

Describe
When I started the class, I was more nervous than the previous two classes. Maybe, I was nervous because it was going to be the last one, and I had the pressure that I had to do it better. The students were seating and talking with their classmates. I asked them to stand up to develop the warm up. The environment was cool since they were really nice as always with me. I made the semi-circle because I liked to have the students closer and also, they can see the board. I used a hot to develop the warm up. I used flashcards for the presentation and worksheets for the activities. I thought comparative adjectives.

It was the last class, and I tried to do my best. I really liked to work with those students for they always helped me. I improved in the variety of activities, and I did something different. The results were great, but I want more since I still learning in each practice.

I explained different adjectives because the teacher wanted me to make the students think more. I did it, and could see in their faces that they were learning.

Teachers can see if the students are learning through their gestures. If they do not say or do anything is because they can be confused. I saw them taking notes, and I could notice their curiosity.
If students are curious they will learn. They increase their knowledge by asking questions and being able to use their knowledge when they speak.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I think that students are able of “show off” their vocabulary. I could see that they used the adjectives that I gave them in a short story.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got the topic since they participated a lot in the class. Also, they were asking a lot about some meanings and I was happy because they really were interested.

I believe that participation can help student learning because students are throwing away their shyness. Moreover, they are feeding their brain practicing.
So, in the future, I will relax because I felt really stressed. I had many things to do, and I felt a lot of pressure.

In future lessons, I will continue using charts and creative activities because they gave me good results in this period.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will work in the objective. I have to think about in which activity I can see great results. I could see awesome responses of the students in every activity.

In future experiences I will also include more prepared flashcards.  I used in this last class, and I could see that they gave nice answers.

Second Teaching (Third period)

Describe
I notice that students were very talkative. They really like to speak, but they do it in Spanish almost all the time. something that I understand because they are starting the major yet. They were ready to start a new class. The environment was really good because the students are very friendly I felt that they helped me a lot. I used the horse-shoe style for the classroom is very big, and I have space to move around the class. I used 3 charts. One of them was used to give grammar explanation. The other was used to show them subject pronouns and object pronouns and the last one was used as a big board game.

I felt a little bit nervous because of the grammar explanation, I prepared myself for this second class, and I prepared good activities.

I didn't give grammar since the second class of the second period in intermediate II. I think that is why I felt a little bit nervous. I felt satisfaction when all of them could do the practices. They gave me great answers.

I think the response that students give in the class is very important because most of the time you can notice if you did a good job. If they look like they don't know you notice it, but if you see that they are very focus and working in the exercise, you know that you did a great job.

Student need to practice. Therefore, they have to practice what is new for them. In that way, they will have new vocabulary when they speak and write.

Based on what I already know about variety of activities, I think it's very essencial since students can practice in different ways. If a teacher just focus in doing controlled practices students will be bored easily.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got my explanation. I could see that their answers were the ones that I was expecting, and I felt very happy for that. They were focus in the activities, and they did it in a really nice way.

I believe that variety of activities can help student learning because as I wrote before, if they are just sitting and writting, they get bored easily. However, if they do an interactive activity, they enjoy what they are doing.

So, in the future, I will explain the grammar part step by step.

In future lessons I will present any topic with colorful charts. That calls students attention. colorful charts can help you  in order to keep students interest.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will do  more kinesthetic activities. They love being busy moving around the classroom.

In future experiences I will also include games in which they can learn and have fun at the same time.

First teaching Third Period

Describe
At the beginning of the class, students were looking at me, and I felt a little bit nervous for being my first time. I introduced myself and I gave them some pieces of colorful papers to write their names. I really like the environment. Basic students are amazing since they like to participate and also, they are very friendly. They made me feel very comfortable in the classroom. I used the horse-shoe style because the classroom is very big and they are twenty-one students. I had to do a review so I used a colorful chart in order to review simple past. Moreover, I used worksheets and board games.

I made a review about the use of “Did” and simple past. I had to prepare since I had to include positive/ negative sentences and question form. I looked
for activities in which they could practice what they already knew.
I made them to practice a lot about the topic. They could resolve the exercises.
This is important because I could realize that they can structure positive/negative sentences and make questions. They did not have problems doing the exercises.
Controlled, semi-controlled and free practice help students to put in practice what they have learned in previous classes. Also, teachers can see when students are happy doing the practice. It is because they see that now, it’s easy for them.

Based on what I already know about self-confidence, I think that when students see that the teacher is not sure about what she/he is teaching, they have the same feeling. That’s why I prepared myself for giving the class.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally liked the class they were laughing, practicing, and participating all the time.

I believe that self-confidence can help student learning because they see that the teacher is prepared and that self-confidence is transmitted. They trust on the teacher and feel confidence in asking their doubts.

So, in the future, I will prepare myself in each class because it is very important and essential.

In future lessons I will look for listening activities. I could see that they enjoy songs.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will give more time for free activities. I could use one in this class, but they had a quiz and that’s why I had to finish early.

In future experiences I will also include readings. It is very important since they can find or learn a variety of vocabulary.
