Describe
I notice that students were very talkative. They really like to speak, but they do it in Spanish almost all the time. something that I understand because they are starting the major yet. They were ready to start a new class. The environment was really good because the students are very friendly I felt that they helped me a lot. I used the horse-shoe style for the classroom is very big, and I have space to move around the class. I used 3 charts. One of them was used to give grammar explanation. The other was used to show them subject pronouns and object pronouns and the last one was used as a big board game.

I felt a little bit nervous because of the grammar explanation, I prepared myself for this second class, and I prepared good activities.
I didn't give grammar since the second class of the second period in intermediate II. I think that is why I felt a little bit nervous. I felt satisfaction when all of them could do the practices. They gave me great answers.
I think the response that students give in the class is very important because most of the time you can notice if you did a good job. If they look like they don't know you notice it, but if you see that they are very focus and working in the exercise, you know that you did a great job.
Student need to practice. Therefore, they have to practice what is new for them. In that way, they will have new vocabulary when they speak and write.

Based on what I already know about variety of activities, I think it's very essencial since students can practice in different ways. If a teacher just focus in doing controlled practices students will be bored easily.
Based on what I observed, I think students
generally got my explanation. I could see that their answers were the ones that I was expecting, and I felt very happy for that. They were focus in the activities, and they did it in a really nice way.
I believe that variety of activities can help student
learning because as I wrote before, if they are just sitting and writting, they get bored easily. However, if they do an interactive activity, they enjoy what they are doing.

So, in the future, I will explain the grammar part step by step.
In future lessons I will present any topic with colorful charts. That calls students attention. colorful charts can help you in order to keep students interest.
The next time I teach this lesson, I will do more kinesthetic activities. They love being busy moving around the classroom.
In future experiences I will also include games in which they can learn and have fun at the same time.

Hi, there my dear friend!
ResponderEliminarNice that you highlight the importance of bringing colorful and attractive materials, such as charts, to your class because they do really help the merely development of the class. For instance, in my last class, I made use of a cute chart that I patiently prepared, and believe me, it worked like a charm! Needless to say, but my pupils said they understood more from the chart rather than the previous class developed by my mentor. Thus, the importance of carrying a variety of activities to the class plays an elemental role in the teaching context for they facilitate not only students' understandig but also the teacher's development in the class.
Excellent, Mely! Dealing with talkative "Spanish"speakers is a little hard. However, maybe you could try to have the rule of not talking in Spanish; and if they do it, they would have a penalty, like describing their mom, talking about their BF, etc.
ResponderEliminarHi Lily!
ResponderEliminarI think it's always important to have a colorful chart for grammar explanations because students tend to understand better, especially when you give them a pattern for them to follow to build sentences. Each word/part of the pattern should be in a different color so that they can catch the idea better. Then, after practices, they will be able to produce language perfectly. Good Job, and don't forget the speaking activities! They are really important, too!
