Second Teaching (Third Period)

Describe
I was writing the agenda for starting the class, (Passive voice) and the Ss were talking about personal things. In that moment, I had just six boys. So, I had to start the class with those boys. The environment was really great in the class; the seating arrangement was in the traditional way; the Ss really cooperated in the class as always. I developed the broken telephone as the warm up, and after that, I did a brain-storming. Then,  I used worksheets and some pictures. I just had to do speaking activities. The hot potato for practicing the structure of passive voice, some pictures (they had to describe the pictures in the passive voice), and a photo gallery.

Passive voice is not an easy topic. You have to be really prepared, and if it’s necessary study the topic again for clarify Ss’ doubts.

I think that sometimes make the Ss practice the passive voice is difficult because they speak in the most easy way. However, I had to look for activities in which I had to be almost sure that they had to be able to practice it.

I think that looking for adequate speaking activities for passive voice is something indispensable since you have to be almost sure the Ss have to practice it: if not, they will speak in the way they want.

Practicing the passive voice is really great for those Ss because I could see that they really liked to practice it.

Based on what I already know about passive voice, I think that it is not something easy to explain. Also, this was a challenge for me.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice in the way that I expected.

I believe that passive voice can help student learning because they will be able to use it the times they want. I mean, they can see different ways to speak and write the foreign language.

So, in the future, I will memorize names. I didn’t know the Ss’ names.

In future lessons, I will teach with charts. They are really helpful.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will explain the grammar in an easier way. I think that we have to start explaining something with simple sentences.

In future experiences, I will also include more writing activities.

First teaching (Third period)

Describe
The students were writing a journal, and they were sharing some ideas of it with their classmates, and I was preparing some things for starting the class. The environment was really awesome! I loved the way the students worked because they really seemed to be interested in the class. The arrangement of the classroom was in the traditional way. I used the marker for the warm up activity that was about guessing some drawings. Then,  I used a chart to explain the new topic (passive voice with modals), worksheets for the controlled and free activity. Also, I used some pictures, and I used the book for the presentation of the topic.

I explain the grammar part that was passive voice with modals, and I was worried because it is hard topic to teach. I tried to explain as clear as I could. I think that they got what I explained, and besides that, they already knew a little bit about the topic.

Passive voice is a hard topic, and I think that it is because of the way that we have to use it. Also, the Ss have to have everything clear about that topic for using it in the right way.

The explanation of the grammar part is important because it is the moment in which the Ss clarify their doubts.

If the grammar part is well explained, the Ss will not feel the exercises very difficult.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I think that the English Advanced Ss really like to speak. I could notice that they really take advantage of speaking activities when they put into practice that skill.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice with modals in the exercises.

I believe that speaking activities can help students learning because they not only practice the structure in the written form but also they practice the new vocabulary that is given.

So, in the future, I will assign some exercises in groups since they really like to work with their classmates.

In future lessons, I will be careful with the presentation because I was nervous, and I forgot to do it after the warm up.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will do activities in which they have to be more active.

In future experiences I will also include listening activities.

Third Class (Second Period)

Describe
I was writing the date and the agenda on the board, and some Ss were talking about a homework assignment they had. The environment was great as the previous classes; the Ss were friendly as always. The seating arrangement was in the horse shoe style, and the materials that I used were worksheets for writing exercises, a chart for explaining the grammar part (some and any; affirmative, negative and question form) and some pictures for a story telling in the free activity.

At the beginning, I was under pressure since I had to do it better than the second class. However; little by little, I felt more comfortable. I saw that the Ss got what I explained.

I think that I explained as clear as possible the use of some and any with examples, and the activities that I did in the class.

Giving examples is something really important because if Ss do not get the topic with just the grammar explanation; they can get it through the examples.

When I asked the Ss, they answered in the way that I was expecting. I could see that they were able to go to the next practice.

Based on what I already know about variety of activities, I saw that the Ss were enjoying the activities.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got the explanation, and I could see it through the responses of the activities.

I believe that any and some is not something difficult for the Ss because they made an effort for using them in the best way.

So, in the future, I will be more relaxed. Sometimes, I worry too much about the class and I don’t enjoy it.

In future lessons, I will apply variety of activities since this really works for maintaining the Ss active all the time.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will ask the Ss to share the storytelling in pairs since I just asked some of them to pass to the front because of the time.

In future experiences I will also include speaking activities. I could see that the Ss always enjoy talking and sharing with others.

Second Teaching (Second preriod)

Describe
I could see that some Ss were eating in the classroom, and I was preparing the materials that I was going to use.  Some Ss were in the classroom on time and the others arrived 5 minutes late. The environment was really good as the first class. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the space.  I used a baby bottle for the warm up activity that is called spin the bottle for reviewing the phrasal verbs of the last class. Then, for the presentation, I gave a reading in which Ss had to underline the phrasal verbs they find. After that, I used some pictures and concepts for doing a matching activity, and I explained the meaning of each phrasal verb. And then, some worksheets for the other activities.

I used a reading activity, and it worked really great. I think that readings are important since they refresh Ss’ minds, and also, they worked well when we want to introduce a topic.

Also, I used a matching activity. I told the Ss to come to the front and match the pictures with the concepts. Ss’ responses were great since I had a lot of participations.

I think that encouraging the Ss is something that we have to keep in mind in every class since that catches Ss attention since the beginning.

Ss are active if we maintain them active since the beginning of the class.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I can say that they really work in the classroom, and Ss do not get bored.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got phrasal verbs I could see that they used them in the writing and speaking activities, and they did it really great.

I believe that speaking activities can help student learning because they put in practice the vocabulary that was given in the class, and in that way we can know if they are able to use it in the appropriate way when they speak.

So, in the future, I will give a variety of activities for make the Ss practice a lot in many different ways.

In future lessons, I will prepare the examples that I will give because in this class, I was hesitating a little bit.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will be careful with the time sometimes; I feel that I’m running with the last activity.

In future experiences I will also include readings. I could see that they are important for Ss to remember how to write some words.

First teaching (Second Period)

Describe
When I was in the classroom, I saw some Ss there. They were talking about a presentation they had in another class. I was writing on the board the agenda and the objective. The environment was great the Ss made me feel comfortable. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the space of the classroom that is small. I used a small teddy bear for playing the hot potato, a chart for explaining grammar (past continuous related with parts of a car) pieces of paper for unscramble sentences and markers for the free activity.

In the warm up, I developed the hot potato for reviewing the topic of the last class. I played music, and the Ss had fun with the activity.

Teaching the past continuous is not difficult. However, the vocabulary about cars was a challenge because it was new for me.

This may help Ss learning since it increases their vocabulary. Now, Ss not only know about what contains a house also they know about cars.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, they are important when you want your Ss to practice their speaking skills. However, written activities are important since they practice the grammar part.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got what I explained, and I felt happy for their reactions

I believe that I could do a better job since I got nervous. It was my first time with them, and I was thinking about their reactions. When I gave my explanation about vocabulary, I just did it once. I think That I could give them more examples about each word.

So, in the future, I will give more examples in the vocabulary for being sure if Ss got some words.

In future lessons, I will make some speaking activities in order to practice the vocabulary taught.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will use funny activities I could notice that they enjoy and at the same time, they put in practice what they saw in the class.

In future experiences I will use a variety of activities because of the time I just did three. Also, I will control the time.

third teaching (first period) English Access

Describe
When the Ss were in the classroom, they were talking with their friends and getting ready for starting the class. I was preparing some flashcards for doing the warm up and they said “Hello.” The environment was really amazing I notices since the beginning that the Ss were really friendly. The seating arrangement was in the horse shoe style. They were twenty one Ss but the seating arrangement was in order. I used flashcards in the Warm up, a chart for explaining past participle in negative form, worksheets for the third activity and music with a hat for developing the free activity.

The new Ss really like to speak in the class, but they didn’t interrupt the class in any moment. Something that I really loved.

I think they were quite since I was new for them, and they respected me. They were kind and always were listening what I said.

I thing that to pay attention in the class is really important in the class since they can learn something new very fast. They got what I explained really fast something that I was happy for.

This really helped me because I could develop other activities. They really liked to work.

Based on what I already know about motivating activities, I thing that those Ss enjoyed the class. All of them participated in the class. I was proud of them although it was my first time with them. However, they treat me like if they knew me since a long time ago.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally learn the past participle (negative form) for they paid  attention.

I believe that if Ss pay attention, they can learn faster. This can help in their learning because they are focus on what they are doing.

So, in the future, I will prepare speaking activities. They love to speak and practice the foreign language.

In future lessons I will teach with some games. It really works at the beginning and at the end since they always are active and speaking.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will prepare colored charts and flashcards. They are focus and paying attention with something that calls their attention.

In future experiences I will also include speaking activities between them.

Teaching Practicum II (First period)

Describe
At the beginning of the class, Ss were a little bit talkative. I asked them to stand up in order to do the warm up. They were happy because I told them to go out for develop it, and I could see that they really like to stay there. I had just had few Students because sometimes the others arrive late. Some of them were without energy, and I tried to cheer them up with the warm up. The environment always is great there. They are people who always participate and make us feel comfortable. The seating arrangement was in the traditional way because of the number of students. I used worksheets in the activities since it was a review.

When I develop the warm up, they were doing well. However, When I ask them to tell me a sentence, they did not speak aloud, and the other students didn’t listen. It was my mistake since I had to tell them to speak aloud, and sometimes the other students get distracted easily.

I think that it is important to tell them to speak aloud because if they don’t do it the other students get distracted and start to speak of other things. Moreover, it’s not just for the teacher but for the students.

This might hinder the students because if I don’t tell them anything they are not going to pay attention, and that will be a problem in the class.

Based on what I already know about activities, I think that English Access students really like to talk, and if we have students like that, It’s good if we give them speaking activities, and we will have the chance to take advantage of that skill they have.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally got everything that I explained, but I have to give them more examples the next class.

I believe that variety of activities can help student learning because if we just assign controlled activities, they will be bored and they will hate that kind of activities. Moreover, they will learn in different ways.

So, in the future, I will do variety of activities in order to make the students feel with energy and interested in the topic.

In future lessons, I will have something in my hand when they have to stop to speak since I had to scream a little bit the last class.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will give Ss more example. Even though it was just a review, We have to give enough examples.

In future experiences I will also include a song. I could notice students really like songs since I plaid one the last class and they were dancing, but I did not have the chance to finish that activity.
