Second Teaching (Third Period)

Describe
I was writing the agenda for starting the class, (Passive voice) and the Ss were talking about personal things. In that moment, I had just six boys. So, I had to start the class with those boys. The environment was really great in the class; the seating arrangement was in the traditional way; the Ss really cooperated in the class as always. I developed the broken telephone as the warm up, and after that, I did a brain-storming. Then,  I used worksheets and some pictures. I just had to do speaking activities. The hot potato for practicing the structure of passive voice, some pictures (they had to describe the pictures in the passive voice), and a photo gallery.

Passive voice is not an easy topic. You have to be really prepared, and if it’s necessary study the topic again for clarify Ss’ doubts.

I think that sometimes make the Ss practice the passive voice is difficult because they speak in the most easy way. However, I had to look for activities in which I had to be almost sure that they had to be able to practice it.

I think that looking for adequate speaking activities for passive voice is something indispensable since you have to be almost sure the Ss have to practice it: if not, they will speak in the way they want.

Practicing the passive voice is really great for those Ss because I could see that they really liked to practice it.

Based on what I already know about passive voice, I think that it is not something easy to explain. Also, this was a challenge for me.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice in the way that I expected.

I believe that passive voice can help student learning because they will be able to use it the times they want. I mean, they can see different ways to speak and write the foreign language.

So, in the future, I will memorize names. I didn’t know the Ss’ names.

In future lessons, I will teach with charts. They are really helpful.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will explain the grammar in an easier way. I think that we have to start explaining something with simple sentences.

In future experiences, I will also include more writing activities.

First teaching (Third period)

Describe
The students were writing a journal, and they were sharing some ideas of it with their classmates, and I was preparing some things for starting the class. The environment was really awesome! I loved the way the students worked because they really seemed to be interested in the class. The arrangement of the classroom was in the traditional way. I used the marker for the warm up activity that was about guessing some drawings. Then,  I used a chart to explain the new topic (passive voice with modals), worksheets for the controlled and free activity. Also, I used some pictures, and I used the book for the presentation of the topic.

I explain the grammar part that was passive voice with modals, and I was worried because it is hard topic to teach. I tried to explain as clear as I could. I think that they got what I explained, and besides that, they already knew a little bit about the topic.

Passive voice is a hard topic, and I think that it is because of the way that we have to use it. Also, the Ss have to have everything clear about that topic for using it in the right way.

The explanation of the grammar part is important because it is the moment in which the Ss clarify their doubts.

If the grammar part is well explained, the Ss will not feel the exercises very difficult.

Based on what I already know about speaking activities, I think that the English Advanced Ss really like to speak. I could notice that they really take advantage of speaking activities when they put into practice that skill.

Based on what I observed, I think students generally practice the passive voice with modals in the exercises.

I believe that speaking activities can help students learning because they not only practice the structure in the written form but also they practice the new vocabulary that is given.

So, in the future, I will assign some exercises in groups since they really like to work with their classmates.

In future lessons, I will be careful with the presentation because I was nervous, and I forgot to do it after the warm up.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will do activities in which they have to be more active.

In future experiences I will also include listening activities.
